You can still check back here for important announcements and updates! I will continue to send out emails for new information! We had a small crew of 8th graders come to our first lunch today! It was great to catch up with them! It's hard to believe they are in their last year of middle school! We got the chance to catch up, then they played board games! I'm looking forward to seeing them next week!
Students in Mr. Brown's Civics class were able to participate in an activity called a TABA. We discussed order versus chaos and how in most cases, you can't have one without the other. We also talked about how our government can produce order from chaos and vice versa. Students came up with some amazing examples, and were able to think deeply about order and chaos.
Students in Mrs. Reuyan's Algebra and Geometry classes got to participate in a growth mindset activity. They all had a famous celebrity taped to their backs. Their job was to determine who was taped to their back by only asking yes or no questions to their classmates. The students were able to create their own way of questioning and write their answers on white boards. Once they determined whose name was on their backs, we discussed why I selected these celebrities. They all struggled through obstacles in life, but ended up successful. We talked about Dr. Seuss, Henry Ford, Katy Perry, Albert Einstein and many more!
Holy moly! It's hard to believe you all are in 8th grade! I look forward to seeing you all this school year in your classes and during our gifted lunches! My goal is at least 2 lunches a month! Please be on the lookout for your lunch pass! Can't wait to see you all and catch up!
English students in 8th grade are getting ready for the writing SOL test! In order to ensure the students are fully understanding how to write their best piece of work, we have developed a boot camp for our 8th graders. We practice many different topics such as punctuating dialogue, pronouns and their antecedents, as well as grammar, practice prompts, and many other wonderfully terrific English topics!
Students in Mrs. Bowles' Physical Science class just began exploring matter. In order to further understand it, students are researching, exploring, and setting up their own lab to investigate the Law of Conservation of Mass. Today, students began their initial research and investigation to set up their experiment. Stay tuned for more info and updates about how this activity progresses!
Students in Mrs. Marchand's English class began the second nine weeks setting and analyzing their goals. Students set personal long term and short term goals as well as goals for English class. To set the goals for English class, students examined their quarterly test scores and analyzed that data to see their strengths and weaknesses. We will be checking back at the end of the nine weeks to see if the students have achieved their short term goal, and how their long term goal progression is going! I can't wait to see the progress!
