Students in Mrs. Chesson's advanced science class have been studying genetics and how traits are passed from parent to offspring. We then jumped into the new and exciting world of genetic engineering! Students learned that there are some organisms that we use and eat every day that are genetically engineered. We also learned that there are some crazy organisms that have been genetically engineered. Students researched many different perspectives and points of view to further understand how genetic engineering impacts our society as a whole. While scientists may love it, the common person, animal rights advocates, farmers, and other members of our society may have opposing viewpoints. Students participated in a Philosophical Chairs discussion debating the different perspectives and the opinions of others. The students did a tremendous job exploring, researching, and discussing these new studies.
