Students in Mr. Alfonsi's English class just finished reading the novel Growing Up in Coal Country and were stunned to hear about children working in the coal mines. As a follow up to this novel, students were summoned by the Today show to create a documentary that depicts either child labor back in the nineteenth century or child labor today. Students are in the process of creating a Google slideshow using photos to tell the story of child labor.

Students in Mrs. Hackett's class learned that mistakes are a part of life and they can be very important! Students discussed hobbies and subjects that were difficult for them, and one thing I learned is that our students don't ever give up! Students created new ways to say things when they encountered troubles along the way, whether in school or playing a sport or hobby. We also created our own Mindset Moments collage where students wrote one thing they were struggling with and how they used a Growth Mindset to get through it. Students also examined many different inventions that we use every day like a microwave, chocolate chip cookies, stainless steel, potato chips and we learned they all have one thing in common! They were all created by mistakes! Mistakes help us learn and grow!
